About the Event
Gol
When it is all done, its the ciúnas that lingers. It would deafen you.
Brú Theatre in collaboration with Julianna Bloodgood, present a bilingual work in progress sharing of Gol. Inspired by the old Irish ritual of keening, and the women who publicly preformed these primal and poignant laments, Gol is part vocal performance, part story of aging Eithne; revered yet recently demoted from the ‘best’ keener in the town.
Everyone who died in Ireland was once keened. Gol seeks to recontextualise keening for today, where public grief is measured and communal release is all but lost.
Gol follows Brú’s successful previous productions Cleite and Selvage. Supported by Galway City Council in association with NUIG.
